Merge multiple word docs to pdf

How can I merge data from an Excel worksheet to a letter in Word so that I can then save each document separately? Mail merge in Word does not allow me to save the created documents separately. Can I do this using form fields or some other way? I'm trying to avoid having to type each document separately. My data is in an Excel spreadsheet. Thanks.
